This is an indication that larger shareholders were cutting positions in these stocks which in turn weakens support. This is a good list to scan for short trade setups in preparation for a potential pullback by the broad market.

The heat map in the trend score column defines the current strength or weakness of that sector using a proprietary weighting formula. The only ShadowTrader Sector to close higher yesterday was $DJUSSW. The other twenty four sectors ended the day lower, relieving the broad market of some overbought conditions. The other notable in the sector scores is GOX which is now oversold, having closed lower the last six consecutive days.

Good morning traders. We have been waiting patiently for semiconductor producer Xilinx, Inc. (XLNX) to trade into the area of prior highs. After a 20 day rally by the PHLX Smiconductor Index (SOX), the stock is now within striking distance of the short entry range. Please observe the chart below.

Unlike SOX which broke out of a trading range to capture higher prices, XLNX is still within its 2013 range with price action that is more "splashy" than trend like.

With the broad market overbought to the upside and the relatively weak performance of XLNX so far this year, we think the stock is a good vehicle to capture gains on a broad market pullback.

DAILY - Bullish - Bullish with breakout to new highs, however risk of new longs extremely high here as SPX cash closed 53 points above 20 period SMA. Over 40 points is considered over extended.

Good morning traders. The banking sector (BKX) is acting like it wants to be the next leader of the broad market higher. Please observe the chart below.

We note in the Daily Market Outlook (above) that short term risk is high with regard to establishing new long positions. However, after the market is relieved some short term froth, traders may want to track BKX more closely for clues about the markets medium term intentions.

It is important to be aware that BKX has now surpassed the highs of 04/2010 (blue circle) and traded through the 38.2% level of the Fibonacci Retracement level derived from the 02/2007 high to the 03/2009 low (red circles).

What strikes us as bullish about the chart above is the very health base BKX has formed since the 03/2009 lows. The range between 32.50 and 57.25 has been thoroughly traded and after a higher-low (black rectangle), the index looks to have enough support now to seek business at higher levels.

Component stocks of $BKX include BAC, BBT, BK, C, CBSH, CFR, CMA, COF, FITB, HBAN, JPM, KEY, MI, MTB, NTRS, PBCT, PNC, RF, SNV, STI, STT, USB, WFC, and ZION.

Good morning traders. Today we profile a "quickie" long trade in NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (NDAQ). Please observe the chart below.

After gapping down in early April, NDAQ has climbed all the way back to the bottom of the prior gap where it has consolidated over the past seven trading days.

During this period, on-balance volume (OBV) has been increasing. In fact, OBV is higher than it was when NDAQ reached the high of 32.89 on 03/15 (red circle).

Based on this and the remaining unfilled overhead gap, we are anticipating a breakout from consolidation and a move up by the stock into the range between 32.00 and 33.00.

DAILY - Neutral - Friday closed strong, negating prior day's liquidation break. Channel resistance is now at 1640 - 1645 in S&P cash.

Good morning traders. The utility sector (UTY) helped to lead the market higher for the first four months of this year. After eleven consecutive higher-highs on the weekly chart (below) UTY failed to make another higher-high and took back gains of the last four weeks. However, this might mark an opportunity to enter the sector long via some of the sector's components. Please observe the chart below.

On Friday, UTY found support at the ascending trendline (magenta) and closed with a daily reversal candlestick bar (not shown here). To further gauge strength of support at this level, we applied a Fibonacci Retracement Study from the former breakout level at the high during the week of 10/15/12, up to the high made during the week of 04/29/13. The result shows UTY has retraced 50.0% of the most recent leg higher (yellow shade). 50.0% pullbacks have been known to act as support.

From this technical analysis, we think there is a higher probability of a reversal back higher by UTY. Components of UTY include AEE, AEP, AES, CNP, CVA, D, DTE, DUK, ED, EE, EIX, ETR, EXC, FE, NEE, NU, PCG, PEG, SO, and XEL.

Good morning traders. In the May 04, 2013 issue of the ShadowTraderPro Swing Trader, we profiled the setup for another leg higher by the S&P 500 Index (SPY). Now that the move has taken place, let's check in with the weekly chart again as we look ahead.

The morning of the May 4, 2013 issue, the U.S. employment report was bullish and the broad market broke above prior highs (blue horizontal line). In the days that followed, SPY climbed all the way to the top of the channel (green oval) meeting our technical target.

Now SPY has two distinct technical markers that define our stance going forward. First, a move back below the mid line of the channel (red-dashed) will signal caution for our bullish stance. Second, a move below the blue horizontal line will put our bias back to neutral. As long as price stays above the blue horizontal line (159.71), our bias must remain bullish on a weekly time frame.

Good morning traders. As mentioned above in the daily outlook, the broad market is very close to technical resistance. It doesn't make a lot of sense to initiate new longs at this point. We are watching stocks approaching key resistance levels to take advantage of an overdue pullback. One of our short trade ideas is profiled below.

Verisign, Inc. (VRSN) has closed higher for eight consecutive days coming into the first test of its 52 week high (blue line). Both of these factors tilt the probability in favor of a price correction. Add to this an overextended broad market, and you have conditions that make the stock "ripe" for at least a bounce back lower with the potential to reach as far down as the ascending trendline.

DAILY - Bullish - However becoming far overextended from the 20 period simple moving average on the daily. S&P cash is now over 40 points over the this key moving average. Channel resistance looms overhead at 1638. We believe risk reward would heavily favor the downside at that level.

CTRIP.com International, LTD (CTRP) reports earnings after the close of trading today. Bullish results could propel the stock into resistance of 52 week highs on Thursday morning.

The stock has traded higher the last four consecutive days. If the push higher does occur on Thursday, the stock could be ripe for a pullback as longs caught at the 52 week high level will be "looking to get their money back".

We would be inclined to initiate a short trade between 24.00-24.50 in anticipation of a revisit of the prior breakout level at 22.47 (blue line) by CTRP.

Good morning traders. In line with the short term bearish signal discussed in the Sector Trend Scores section below, we have listed two short trade ideas in today's Bulls and Bears section. One of them is a short in Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS). Please observe the chart below.

GS is within one daily average true range measure of making its first touch of the exterior descending trendline illustrated on the chart above. The highest probability for a successful reversal is on the first test of an inflection point. In this case, we are looking for a short term pullback with the potential to fill the prior open gap (blue oval) as the initial target. Support levels and potential targets beneath the low of the gap (143.67) are prior swing lows at 140.39 and 137.29.

It's very interesting how the S&P 500 Index is set up ahead of this morning's numbers. Please observe the chart below.

Peter has discussed the ascending channel on the S&P 500 Index (SPY) in a number of videos found in past issues of the ShadowTrader Weekend Update.

As illustrated on the chart above, the index finds itself against resistance of the 50.0% channel level (red dashed line), and just above the prior high of 04/11 (blue line).

Market observers may be sensing some skepticism in the market, that this year's rally can extend higher. What we see on the weekly chart above is a high potential for bears to get blown out by bullish news this morning. A short covering rally today could follow through higher early next week as no economic data is scheduled for release on Monday or Tuesday.

In this scenario, our target is the top side of the channel around 163.00 on the SPY (green oval).

Good morning traders. A leading sectors of this year's rally has been health care ($DJUSHC). However, the index has become more volatile in recent weeks which could be signaling an end to the current trend. Please observe the chart below.

Another day lower by $DJUSHC could easily test support of the prior swing low (black line) and the primary ascending trendline of the sectors 2013 rally. It will be the first test of both lines which tilts probability in favor of a bounce back higher. A breach and close below the ascending trendline will be confirmation that the trend is truly under threat.

Components of $DJUSHC include JNJ, PFE, MRK, AMGN, GILD, BMY, ABBV, UNH, LLY, and ABT.

Good morning traders. The end of April presents the chance to look at completed monthly charts as of yesterday's close. While the current S&P 500 Index rally is coy to offer many opportunities to establish new long positions, the tech heavy NASDAQ 100 Index (QQQ) looks more interesting from a bullish perspective. Please observe the monthly chart of QQQ below.

The close of April's candle just above the prior high brings an ascending triangle into play for QQQ, as illustrated on the chart above. It will be interesting to watch how the index trades over the next couple of months in relation to the triangle, however the current takeaway from the chart above is very simple.

Whether QQQ consolidates further into the triangle or breaks out sooner, our broad market bias for the NASDAQ must be bullish as long as price remains above the ascending trendline.

Good morning traders. One trade idea Peter touched on in this weekend's ShadowTrader Video Weekly was Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN). Lets take a look at the trade setup below.

AMZN traded down on Friday following the company's earnings announcement. The red trendlines on the chart define the descending channel of the stocks price range since late January of this year. AMZN closed within 2.75% of this channel's bottom on Friday. We are looking for follow through lower this week in order to establish a long position around the bottom of the channel (green oval). If the stock fails to bounce back higher as we anticipate, a protective stop will be placed under the prior swing low formed on 12/31/12 (blue line).

Good morning traders. The broad market has closed higher five consecutive days. A pause or a pullback is in order to keep the current rally healthy. A pullback would also afford bulls long entry opportunities. One stock we are stalking for a long play is VMWare, Inc. (VMW). Please observe the chart below.

On 02/22/13, VMW reached a low of 70.05 before moving back up to fill approximately 45% of the prior gap. Since then, the stock returned to make the first test of the prior low. Although it has come close to 70.05, it has not reached this price. A broad market pullback could help the cause of bringing price into this level for our long entry. If this occurs, we will be looking for a bounce back higher with an initial target at the 50 day moving average (red line). To control risk, we will place a protective stop loss 3.55 below the entry level at 66.50.

Good morning traders. A pullback today might provide good long entry opportunities in stocks such as Workday, Inc. (WDAY). Please observe the chart below.

After reaching its all-time high on 03/07 (magenta circle), WDAY came back to test the prior breakout level at 56.85. The red oval highlights the on balance volume line showing the massive amount of buying that occurred the only time price went below 56.85. Since then, on balance volume has not declined while the stock has traded under the descending trendline. This is one sign the stock has good support around the current price range.

We like the opportunity for an entry along the short term ascending trendline between 57.50 and 57.00. Placing a stop under the price bar where a lot of the recent buying volume came into the stock makes good sense while still allowing for a good sized position can still be acquired.

Bears have spent the last six trading days attempting to push XNG through support of the key pivot level at 706.00 and the ascending trendline (magenta). On each occasion, the bears were foiled, leaving relatively good sized tails on each of the daily price bars.

A move over yesterday's bullish price bar could cause short covering serving as the initial fuel for a move back higher.

DAILY - Bullish - Bullish. Market beginning advance from low end of channel to midpoint. Bias does not change unless market closes below 1540.

Good morning traders. GOOG recently reported earnings and rallied hard on Friday of last week to the $800 area. Looking at the daily chart below, it's misleading in the sense that the large spike down was a "bad tick" and price never reallyi traded there for any normal amount of time. The true day's low was about $786.

Our focus here is the downtrendline that you see in the chart that connects the highs. We see GOOG poised for a move higher soon here once it is able to cross that line to the upside. With a first target of the prior highs at the $840 area, a protective stop could be put at $785 under yesterday's pullback low mentioned above. This would give a better than 2:1 risk reward.

Given the high price of the shares and the increased volatility after earnings, traders should be aware that there could easily be a breakout over the line and then a retest back to the line. With GOOG as expensive as it is, don't let such countermoves that are still way above your stop get you out of the trade prematurely. As the old saying goes, "if you can't stand the heat, lower your size."

Good morning traders. One of the three trades listed in today's Bulls and Bears section is a long play in Stanley Black & Decker, Inc. (SWK). Please observe the chart below.

SWK is very close to testing the primary ascending trendline (magenta) that begins from the lows in July, 2012. We have specified an entry range along this line between 75.30 and 75.15. The prior low made during the week of 02/25/13 (blue line) provides a level to park a relatively tight protective stop behind.

The trade has the potential to deliver 3 points for every 1 point risked with a bounce back up to the descending orange trendline. More if it breaks this trendline.

Good morning traders. The support level for the S&P 500 Index (SPY) discussed in Monday's edition of the ShadowTraderPro Swing Trader held yesterday. Let's check back in with the daily chart which now includes price action for the last two days.

SPY bounced off the 50 day moving average (red line) and the 161.8% level of the Fibonacci extension level drawn from the highs and lows of the dates specified on the chart above.

In the short term, the 100.0% level of the study (156.27) is now essentially the resistance level SPY must overcome to reverse the downtrend. If this fails to occur, the top of the prior channel at 153.64 will be tested. This line is now more vulnerable after two prior tests (blue arrows). The bottom of the prior gap at 152.92 then becomes the next line of support.

Good morning traders. FedEx (FDX) is listed as a long trade idea in today's Bulls and Bears section. Let's take a look at the set up below.

At the start of 2013 FDX broke out of a nine month trading range. After reaching a high of 109.66, the stock traded all the way back down, and is now testing the prior breakout level around 93.50.

Based on the price bars of the last two weeks and this week's price bar (so far), the stock appears to be preparing for a rotation back higher while the longer term ascending trendline (magenta) and the 50 week moving average converge to provide additional support.

We like the opportunity for a long entry at this key level with a protective stop at 90.50.
